A hydrogeological unit is a body of rock with uniform hydrogeological properties as a result of its petrography, texture or structure, within a specified bandwidth, and which is bounded by stratigraphic boundaries, facies boundaries, erosional boundaries or faults (Hydrogeologiche Kartieranleitung 1997, Geol. Jb. G2:59). The hydrogeological units are the smallest elements that can make up the hydrogeological subunits, units and regions, in the characteristic combinations. \r\n

Die Polygone der Geologischen Übersichtskarte von Niedersachsen 1 : 500 000 wurden nach oben genannten Kriterien zusammengefasst und neu attributiert.
