Die Auswertung Kohlenstoffvorrat aus der Humusstufe für unterschiedliche Bezugstiefen auf Basis der Bodenkarte von Niedersachsen 1 : 50 000 (BK50) zeigt die Menge an organischem Kohlenstoff im Boden für unterschiedliche Tiefenstufen. Jedem Horizont der Leitprofile der BK50 wird in Abhängigkeit von seiner Humusstufe gemäß Bodenkundlicher Kartieranleitung (5. Auflage, KA5) ein mittlerer Humusgehalt zugeordnet. Dieser Wert, geteilt durch den Faktor 1,72 ergibt den C~org~-Gehalt in % (Ausnahme: Bei Torfen [Humusstufe h7] wird nach KA5 der Faktor 2 verwendet). Für Forststandorte gelten laut KA5 leicht abweichende Klassifizierungsgrenzen. Der Vorrat an organischem Kohlenstoff wird in Bezug auf die Horizontmächtigkeit und die Trockenrohdichte des Horizontes abgeleitet und dann für unterschiedliche Tiefenstufen (0 bis 0,3 m, 0 bis 1 m, 1 bis 2 m oder das gesamte Profil) aufsummiert. Bei vielen Fragestellungen spielt der Kohlenstoffvorrat in bestimmten Tiefenintervallen eine Rolle. Insbesondere im Rahmen von Fragestellungen des Klimaschutzes ist die Auswertung hilfreich.
