WMSClass symbols for soil assessment in Lower Saxony, 1 : 5 000The soil assessment maps have been compiled by the fiscal authorities with the aim of equitable taxation of arable land since 1934. The soil assessment class symbol shown here gives a rough overview of the typical soil structure for an area's soil type, the soil evolution and the soil water balance. The inventory consists of delineating similar soil areas at the field map scale (around 1 : 3 000 and larger), as well as describing the composition of a one metre deep test pit typical for the area, documented in assessment books.
